Having your motorcycle vandalized is upsetting, to say the least. But it’s important to stay calm and try not to take it personally. If your bike is insured, you should be able to put things right again in no time. Just go through the proper channels.
The Proper Procedure
The first thing you should do is call the police right away. Do not ride the motorcycle until the damage has been assessed. While you’re waiting for the police to show up, you can take some pictures of the damage with your phone. Get clear photos and take note of the date and time they were taken. See if you can find any witnesses who saw what happened and are willing to make a statement. Find out if there were any security cameras nearby. You want as much evidence as you can gather. After the police have assessed the damage, you will be able to file a police report. Once you have that, you can contact your insurance company and provide them with the evidence and police report number. The insurance company will likely send an adjuster to inspect the damage for themselves. They may also recommend an approved repair shop for an estimate on how much it will cost to repair the damage. Hold on to all your receipts so you can be compensated.
